The Social Service and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014

The Social Service and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 changed the way that Social Services and the Health Authority work and makes them responsible for promoting the wellbeing of the people who need their support.

Part of the Act is the requirement to provide accessible information, this means that anything they publish about your support or events happening in your area then it has to be produced in an accessible manner, whether that it in large print, easy read or in BSL video.

The Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act 2010 protects everyone in Britain from discrimination, harassment and victimisation.

Under the Act there are 8 protected characteristics including disability. Disability Discrimination is when you are treated less favourably or put at a disadvantage for a reason that relates to your disability.

The Act says a disability is a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse (negative) effect on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. This means that if you are Profoundly Deaf you will be covered by The Act.  (If you have a severe loss then you may be covered, but if your hearing loss is mild you may not be.)
